Seaports (03/29/99)
If your seaport tiles are not developing, this short article should get it going. These are the conditions required for seaport tiles to develop:

Access to power and water
Access to road (maximum 5 tiles away)
Must be beside water:
- Water must be connected to a neighbor
- Water must have at least 5 tiles of straight shoreline
- Water must be at least 4 tiles wide
- Will not develop on surface water
Height of land must be 52 meters or less (3 clicks of raise terrain)

The main component of the seaport is the pier, which is an extension of the seawall. Piers will be built at closest, 6 tiles apart. The auxillary buildings will be built around the piers. The more piers a seaport develops, the more sea traffic it will generate. Also, the ports will create much air pollution as well as water pollution, so water pumps should be placed away from a seaport.
